A PLATE OF SCRAMBLED EGG
SCramble your brains and say goodbye to reality.
‘A Plate of Scrambled Egg’ is a multi-media, experimental movement piece, which I devised and directed, as part of SPLIT ENDS Showcase, March 2022. As a performance this work concerns itself with the choreographed chaos of life, the instability of reality and madness.
Utilising projection, costume lead movement, and collaborative physicality, ‘A Plate of Scrambled Egg’ distorts where beginning meets end, non-linearity forms the true nature of reality. From nothing emerges the whole.
We emerge, limbs tumbling, from behind a single white sofa. Comically strange. Each body entranced in a state of waiting, seemingly for a train. Techno music blasts, bodies fall in and out of sync. Patterns of coincidence flutter amid eyelashes. We snap out of one reality and into another, someone get enveloped by a 14ft scarf. We question which is real. Our shoes stand tapping in an elevator, waiting for us to catch up. And we realise- It’s all real.
the process:
‘A Plate of Scrambled Egg’ had a long gestation period, from sketch-booking initial ideas and design concepts, (as featured below), to workshopping somatic exercises with sample groups of performers.
This project gave me ample experience in running workshops and audition spaces. Within any space I run, I try to embrace principles of care and bravery. My cast of six was intimate and intersectional, consisting of only AFAB performers. Each performer brings their own intersectional experience to the devised movement. Emphasising embodied practice within the choreographing process.
I view this work as ongoing still, it is a piece which holds the capacity to transform and evolve as it is performed.
